SOLO DIVER Required Skill Performance
Skills are to be performed in the open water. The student is required to demonstrate understanding of the techniques to properly execute a solo dive.
Swimming Skills
- Conduct a surface swim of 200m in full scuba diving equipment. (Must be non-stop)
SCUBA Skills
- Demonstrate adequate pre-dive planning
- Limits based on personal gas consumption.
- Exact Dive profile and or Decompression profile
Properly execute the planned dive within all predetermined limits.
- Equipment configuration appropriate for Solo Diving
- Streamlining equipment
- Use and carry a redundant gas supply
- Proper descent/ascent rates.
- Proper safety stop procedures
- Monitoring of decompression status equipment (table, computers, equipment)
Demonstrate proficiency of underwater navigation with compass.
Demonstrate an emergency change over to a backup cylinder / regulator.
Deploy surface marker and demonstrate use of audible surface signaling device.
Upon successful completion of this course, Graduates may engage in solo diving activities. As a SDI Solo Diver.
Prerequisites:
- Must be 21 years old.
- Candidates must be certified as Advanced Open Water Diver.
- Have a current medical examination and a complete Medical Diving Release.
- Have a minimum of 100 logged dives.
Required Equipment:
- Mask, fins & snorkel
- BC with low-pressure power inflator
- Regulator with submersible pressure gauge or air integrated hoseless computer.
- Redundant air source ( Pony bottle, twin cylinders w/isolation, independent doubles.
- Weight system
- Personal dive computer
- Exposure suit adequate for the training conditions.
- Compass
- 2 Knives and/or Cutting Tools
- Surface audible signaling device.
- Visual rescue signal
