| Boating Safety Certificate Who needs a NJ Boating Safety Certificate? All persons who wish to operate a power vessel must possess a Boating Safety Certificate by June 1, 2009, or the following, phased in by age: Persons born in 1969 or later, by June 1, 2006 Persons born in 1959 or later, by June 1 2007 Persons born in 1949 or later, by June 1 2008 As of June 1, 2009, all power vessel operators, regardless of date of birth, will be required to possess a boat safety certificate.
